Corinium Squares     January 2012
Newsletter Issue 103
Time for another newsletter. But first a quick look back, Thursday 15th December 2011 Christmas Party
What a great night and party for the 66 attendees!!
Everyone has told us what a wonderful idea it was to have fish/chicken/sausages and chips. And you were all surprised how smoothly the evening went.
With more dancing than usual!
The whole evening was Rod’s idea and he did all the organising so it’s a big thank you to Rod, and his helpers for a fun evening. He tells me that all the waste, cardboard, paper and a small amount of food was all recycled; so no waste there.
I was also very pleased with your response to the Christmas Charity. We collected £91.35 on the night and our generous Treasurer agreed to make it up to the round £100  - so a cheque for that amount was delivered on the Saturday following the party. Well done!!

Saturday 31st December 2011 New Year Party
Sadly I missed the party having been laid low with “man flu” after Christmas.
I am told that, yet again, another successful party. Thanks to Peter for his calling and quizzes and to Phyllis, Lorraine and Diana for the food and drink organisation.
I also hear that a new kind of raffle went down extremely well!! A “snatch raffle”! ? ! ? Phyllis’s idea I believe.

Changed Dates.
1st March and 19th April will be at Daglingworth

Now to future events.
Saturday 21st January 2012 James Wyatt Dance
At Deer Park School
Actually it is two dances!
First a Plus Workshop from 1500 to 1730 followed by a Mainstream and Plus dance at 1930 until 2230.
The hall will be open between dances; tea will be available so bring a cake or two unless you are going home.
Pot Luck please at the evening dance.
Charges will be £4 for the afternoon and £6 for the evening BUT if you want to attend both then its two dances for £8 (a bargain!)
I would appreciate a few raffle prizes BUT please give them to me personally; before the day if possible.

Saturday 11th February 2012 Valentine’s Skittles
At Thameshead Inn, Tetbury Road with a buffet supper.
Starting at 1930. There will be a finger buffet at about 2030 (depends on how busy the restaurant is).
Cost will be £7 which includes a small gratuity for the staff.
Names, and more importantly, cash to me by Thursday 9th Feb. Prizes for the winners!!!! Well maybe.
Saturday 10th March 2012 Annual Club Dinner
A new venue this year! The dinner will be held at the Crown of Crucis commencing at 1930 for 2000.
A number of members have requested a smaller meal this year so we have opted for a two-course carvery. There will be a choice of two meats and a vegetarian alternative plus a sweet followed by coffee and mints. More details to follow when negotiations with hotel are finalised.

Sunday 22 April 2012 Spring Treasure Hunt.
I am very sorry that this event has been postponed.
Why, you may ask. Many dancers complained that the date clashed with a weekend dance away from Cirencester an event not appreciated at the time.
So a new date has been set for Sunday 8th July.
Saturday 26th May 2012.  At Deer Park School.
An evening with Brian Hotchkies.

Saturday 2nd June 2012. Jubilee Party
To celebrate H.M.Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
In St Peters Hall with a “Street Party Theme”.
There will be a list available shortly for members to commit to this event. Again more details to follow!

Thursday 14th June 2012 Annual General Meeting.
We will be requiring a few volunteers for the Committee so
have a think. What can you do?

Sunday 8th July 2012 Summer Treasure Hunt.
At Quenington. The afternoon will go something like this. Meet at Quenington Village hall at 1400 for instructions; after the “hunt” return back to hall for tea and cakes.

August BBQ.
To be held at Rosewood, Kemble.

September Break 2012.
No dancing during this month

September 2012.
An afternoon of Jazz and cream teas.
Details later. (For those not on holiday!!)

Saturday 6th October 2012 Joint Dance with Cheltenham.
Paul Bristow will be the caller.

The hunt for a new Treasurer is over!
Lorraine has volunteered to be co – opted onto the Committee and will hold the purse strings. She will take over from Delma with immediate effect.
Our thanks to Delma for stepping into an awkward situation and helping us out of a little difficulty.

A word about our sick friends!
I hear that Phyllis’s shoulder operation was a success and that she is now in the “recovery” mode.
Alan Moss collapsed in the garden, had a day in hospital only to find out that he is “ok”. Good news.
Jeannette Brunton is, sadly, still in hospital.
Pip Hall is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
